With advancements in Artificial Intelligence & Natural Language Processing & with companies like Facebook & Apple opening up their messaging platforms for developers, we’re seeing an explosion of new chat-bots. Just 3 months after Facebook announced their platform for building bots, Facebook Messenger had more than 11,000 bots. Chat-bots are upon us.
So is this the “next big thing” or the latest fad? Are chat-bots going to replace apps like some claim, or are they going to turn into fancier reincarnations of IVRs? Do chat-bots provide a better way to get tasks done compared to GUIs or do they get in the way of accessing necessary information?
When we started building a chat-bot, our minds were swamped with these questions, ultimately asking: what will it take to make chat-bots successful? With this talk we will share our insights & examples of our design explorations, & hope to spark conversations on the future of chat-bots.
