Diversity in High-Tech: Retaining Women Once Hired

As widely reported, the lack of women in high tech is so striking that companies are actively working to “fill the pipeline.” But this alone won’t solve problems within the team and culture. Once hired, women leave at much higher rates than men. The challenges may be compounded for UX women because they are likely to be one of the few women on the team – and they don’t code. To retain women we must know the aspects of daily life they need to thrive. With a better understanding of important factors in the workplace all UX professionals can better advance their careers and positively influence diversity. In this session the speaker presents her qualitative and quantitative research revealing factors needed for women to be successful. This action framework reveals key intervention opportunities.
